The globally critically-acclaimed film Birdshot continues to gain recognition as it launches worldwide in top video streaming platform Netflix. This is another exciting development for Philippine cinema as the award-winning indie film, directed by Mikhail Red and presented by TBA Studios, Globe Studios and Pelikula Red, can soon be viewed by audiences around the world.
I’m super excited about this because I’ve been a long time avid Netflix subscriber.
Online video content selections are growing so quickly that families can now spend an entire weekend just watching the latest movies, TV shows, and viral clips.
It is because of this that families and binge watchers were treated by Globe at Home to a great weekend at the Bonifacio High Street Activity Center in BGC via a spectacularly fun and festive event called #StreamFest!
Gone are the days of us depending on regular television programming and rushing home to catch the start of a favorite show. Today, on-demand content has taken over. Streaming truly has become KING.
I have mentioned quite a number of times on my previous posts that in our home, streaming has become our main mode of entertainment consumption. In fact, watching movies and television shows via streaming have become a great way for the family to bond. Whether we decide to enjoy movies and our fave TV series using Netflix and HOOQ, or go crazy over an NBA game via NBA League Pass, or watch a playlist of fun hilarious clips on YouTube, family fun has never been better.
It’s really amazing how the internet has revolutionized our way of life in every way possible, wouldn’t you agree?
Apart from the ways our connected world has changed the way we work, play, learn and socialize, it has even incredibly altered our viewing habits.
I remember back when I was a kid, we only had 5 television channels (2, 4, 7, 9 and 13). 24-hour programming, let alone cable television were remotely even figments of one’s imagination. Apart from that, cartoon programs were only shown every 4PM in the afternoon and during Saturday mornings. Bummer, right?
Today, not only has 24-hour cable programming become common even to the regular joe, it is actually slowly losing its market all thanks to the way high-speed broadband internet connections have changed the way we consume entertainment content.
In our household, our family hardly watches regular television programs on cable television anymore. We don’t find ourselves rushing home, trying to catch the start of a particular show anymore. That’s because everyone in our house has gone the way of STREAMING content — all thanks to our recently installed Globe at Home high-speed broadband internet connection.
Technology is a great thing. Among other benefits, it makes our work much more efficient, it allows us to do things more conveniently, and it gives people access to information faster and easier than ever before.
But, at what cost?
You see, technology is a double edged sword. As we maximize and enjoy its seemingly limitless potential, we must also be cautious not to be burdened or hurt by it.
We constantly praise humanity’s advances in technology, not to mention the power of the internet, recognizing that because of it, the world has never been smaller and more connected.
While that may be the truth, many of us fail to realize that the very same technology that practically surrounds us everywhere we go, has also made us slaves of it. The very thing that has given us the power to be connected has, ironically, also been the very reason why human beings have slowly grown apart. People have become frighteningly addicted and dependent on technology that we have sadly become imprisoned by our devices and forgotten the importance of personal ties and truly “being” with someone and sharing meaningful moments with them.
It’s such a tragedy to see families living under the same roof and yet never really “being together”.
I’m so excited! One of my most awaited shows on Netflix is finally out — Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events! As soon as the this new series was teased online, I immediately added it to my personal list on my Netflix account so I could get notified as soon as the show is available for watching.
Netflix is just incredible! It’s pretty much all I ever spend my free late night evenings doing because this service has already established itself as a purveyor of quality shows. Through the years, the global internet television network has produced award-winning TV series and favorites such as House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, and The Crown.
Truly, traditions are essential in every culture. It creates different experiences for everyone. Take Filipinos, for example… the Christmas season is, no doubt, one of the most celebrated traditions across the county. To my knowledge, the Philippines celebrates Christmas the longest in the world. Malls, establishments and even homes are already adorned with holiday decor and decked out in merry colors as early as September.
But hey… whether it’s the annual Christmas dinner, holiday gift shopping, or getting away and heading off to wonderful destinations, the true meaning of the season is anchored on togetherness. Agree? Some of us may be oceans apart but our love for one another brings everyone closer.
And just because times are changing fast doesn’t mean our old traditions are going away anytime soon. On the contrary, today’s digital lifestyle allows old traditions to be relived and made even more exciting! How? Through the use of technology, of course. By turning these traditions into new ones, using the latest digital trends from Globe and allowing everyone to create new memories for a lifetime with the people who matter the most.
