It’s a common concern among mobile users and a question we normally ask ourselves — “How much data have I consumed already?”
It’s normal for us to be cautious and watchful of our consumed data because we don’t want to end up using more than necessary or going beyond our allotted budget. But up until now, it’s been quite difficult to look for an application that can accurately keep track of our mobile data usage.
Globe realizes this need which is the very reason they have finally come up with an app that will not only keep our usage in check, but provide so much more than that.
We are a family of five in our household – me, my wife, our two kids, and my father.
One of the usual challenges of being in a family with different tastes is reaching a compromise in the kind of television shows or movies each of us would want to watch together.
Just imagine… sharing one TV over dinner (or lunch) would mean all of us having to agree on a common show. If there were any other good shows airing at the same time, well, tough luck.
Same goes for movies.
More often than not, It gets quite difficult trying to reach a compromise on what flick to watch. I love scary films, my wife hates it. My daughter enjoys girly flicks and kiddie animated features, my son doesn’t.
And because we have work while the kids have school and other activities, finding the right time to catch our favorite shows becomes futile – either our schedules get in the way or we are already too tired to stay awake to catch what’s on TV.
I’m sure some of you, especially those with families of their own can relate.
Thankfully, now I found a way to keep everyone happy by giving them the opportunity to watch their favorite local and international television shows and movies anytime, anywhere.
All thanks to a nifty service I recently discovered called “HOOQ” (pronounced “hook”).
I’m really excited to share this with all of you because you might find yourselves in the same boat as I am. And if you share the same concerns and frustrations as I do, you will most likely consider this a godsend.
In a nutshell, HOOQ is an online entertainment service that gives my family access to an incredibly vast selection of television shows and movies – local and international. That’s more than 10,000 videos right in the palm of our hands for as low as P199. Yes, you read that right – P199!
If you’re like me and countless others who are always looking for ways and opportunities to maximize the use and benefits of your cellular and mobile data service, then you’re in luck!
Just days after Globe’s recent announcement of their strategic partnership with Lazada, here they are once again announcing something really cool which I am sure their subscribers will absolutely enjoy.
In another revolutionary move to sustain its leadership in the mobile data business, Globe Telecom has forged a partnership with WhatsApp! I know, right?
This Globe and WhatsApp partnership will allow customers to enjoy FREE access to the mobile messaging app with a prepaid promo or postpaid plan subscription.
Prepaid and postpaid customers will find this Globe and WhatsApp partnership very beneficial because what this means is that, with free WhatsApp, users will be able to enjoy real-time messaging and voice calling WITHOUT DATA CHARGES on any Globe prepaid promo or myLifestyle Plan subscription starting April 30, 2015.
It’s really easy to take advantage of this neat offering!
With the vast selection of easy-to-use laptops, netbooks and tablets sold in the market nowadays, and as each gadget becomes smaller and smaller, you would think that gone are the days of workstations and high-powered devices.
On the contrary, there is very much a need for such products.
Sure, surfing the internet, updating your Facebook status, word processing and watching your favorite videos can be performed using your handy notepad or tablet. But, what if work (or play) requires a higher demand for power? Memory-intesive graphics design or power-hungry gameplay, perhaps. Good luck performing those tasks using a simple netbook. You’ll probably end up pulling your hair in frustration… if your device doesn’t give up on you first.
But hey, that’s the very reason why Acer Philippines reminds us that there is Acer Premium – an elite array of top-of-the-line Acer products showcasing first-class engineering in sophisticated design. Just because a device works like a behemoth of a monster doesn’t mean it can’t look good at the same time, right?
Power and Looks – a potent combination that is sure to attract the most discerning of consumers. That’s why Acer Philippines launched their most “powerful” campaign to date.
Admit it… some of you have gone into a telecom store looking for a mobile plan, checked out your options and ended up more confused than when you came in.
Hey, it happens.
Even when these mobile plans are laid out in front of you and explained in detail, sometimes you get “information overload”. Then you pretend to understand and just choose a plan to get it done and over with. You end up having a plan that either doesn’t meet your requirements or something that is way over your allotted budget. Either way, not good.
Well, all those postpaid woes are about to go away because I recently learned about the new Globe myLIFESTYLE Plan.
It is, by far, the easiest, fastest and most straightforward way to assemble a mobile and data plan that best suits your kind of lifestyle. It takes away the stress of trying to understand countless figures and tedious computations.
Compared to the old Globe Postpaid plans where there are many plan offers, Freebies and Boosters to choose from, the new Globe myLIFESTYLE Plan is much simpler. Now, there is only ONE PLAN.
Another big difference is that with the old plans, adding Combos or Boosters to your plan doesn’t give you a better handset. With Globe myLIFESTYLE Plan, the more promo packs you add to your base plan, the better the handset you can get!
If you know how to do basic math, you’re good to go.
Since the time I posted about my switch from SuperSurf to the all-new GoSURF (Globe Telecom’s latest and greatest mobile data plan), it was a pleasant surprise to also discover that a good majority of people I know, including friends, have made the switch as well.
I even explained in length via a previous blog post, why I made the inevitable move to GoSURF. You can read all about it here and be enlightened yourselves.
Basically, in a nutshell, Globe GoSURF enables me to choose the type of mobile data plan that fits my kind of lifestyle. This effectively allows me to avoid data throttling brought about by the old Fair Use Policy which people have been complaining about for the longest time.
I recently read a blog post over at Yugatech’s site about something Globe Telecom is cooking up called “GoSurf”(note that the source isn’t Globe).
According to Yugatech’s post:
“Subscribers will be offered GoSurf plans which is basically 5GB of LTE plus unlimited access to the EDGE network after the allocation is consumed. It’s still basically unlimited access to their data network, only that you’ll be transferred to the slower network once you’ve consumed 5GB of data.”
Personally, if this is true… I think it’s great news! Read more
People have been going crazy recently and getting so uptight about this much talked about “Fair Use Policy” by telcos.
Globe Telecom in particular has been taking a lot of heat because of this widely contested and greatly opposed mobile data regulation.
The Globe Fair Use Policy (FUP)
For those who aren’t too keen about what this Fair Use Policy (FUP) is all about, here is a brief overview…
According to Globe Telecom’s website:
The Fair Use Policy of Globe is aligned with the global industry practice of telecommunications providers all over the world. It is intended to ensure that all customers will have the equal opportunity to enjoy the services offered by Globe. As such, the Fair Use Policy may be used to protect Globe customers against entities or persons utilizing Globe services in a manner that runs counter to the intent of the product or service, fraudulent, or exceeding normal standards of use.
To know more about Globe’s Fair Use Policy, click here.
Basically, in a nutshell, customers on a mobile internet promo who exceed 1GB/day or 3GB/month will have their data transfer speeds automatically throttled down to 2G. This prevents the 3% of users who generate enormous volumes of traffic on the network using file-sharing software and torrent applications on their smartphones (or through tethering) to abuse the service.
The Fair Use Policy has always been in existence. It just hasn’t been strictly enforced for the longest time… until now.
Globe Telecom said mobile coverage in Visayas region is already at 90% of its network and restoration of affected cell sites is now approaching completion.
Following accelerated efforts to repair and rehabilitate affected sites, majority of areas in Samar, Leyte and Biliran provinces now have access to call and text services. The company said 90% of its 2G-enabled sites in Visayas are already up and running while 88% of its 3G sites in the region are now operational.
They say that when something is “too good to be true”, it usually is. We were often told by wiser (but not necessarily older) individuals to “never take anything at face value”.
There is truth to that, no doubt.
And because we were taught to listen to that cautionary voice in our head, when something genuinely awesome comes our way, our jaded minds often turn us into skeptics immediately.
So, when I heard about Globe Telecom offering (get this!)FREE FACEBOOK access on their mobile network not just for Postpaid but for Prepaid subscribers as well, I said to myself, “Well, there has to be a catch somewhere, right?” I mean, there’s no such thing as a free meal nowadays.
