Beep Card and Family Mart – Have your fill with just a tap!

People are always caught up in the never ending search for convenience — the endless pursuit of making our lives easier and less tiresome. That’s why we now enjoy some of the most incredible innovations such as online shopping, instant messaging, smartphones and, yes… even convenience stores.

Now, if you’re one of the countless Filipinos who regularly brave the daily commute, finding ways to make traveling from point A to point B less of a hassle is most certainly a welcome thing.

And since we’re on the topic of convenience, you’ve probably already heard of this little thing called the BEEP CARD.

What is a Beep Card?

For the benefit of those who still aren’t aware, the Beep Card was initially launched to the public back in July 2015. It is a unified “tap and go” card for the 3 elevated railways (LRT1, LRT2 and MRT3) of Metro Manila. With a Near Field Communicator (NFC) chip which enables contactless payments, the Beep Card replaced the old magnetic Stored Value Card.

As a reloadable, pre-paid or stored value card that retails for merely Php 20.00 (without load) and valid for four (4) years, the Beep Card was immediately seen as one of the best means to make commuting more pleasant and less stressful. It needs no registration and can be easily purchased at any of the rail stations or bus terminals of BGC Bus and Citylink.

The Beep Card can be used in the following:

  • LRT1, LRT2 and MRT3
  • BGC Bus
  • Citylink Coach Services (for McKinley-San Lorenzo Place and McKinley-Guadalupe routes)

P2P buses:

  • Frohlich (Trinoma – Glorietta5 and SM Megamall – SM North EDSA)
  • RRCG (Alabang Town Center-Greenbelt 1)
  • HM Transport (Airport loop)

I’m sure many of you who happen to be proud Beep Card holders, already know the many benefits this little thing brings. It eliminates the hassle of having to purchase different tickets/stored value cards to ride the LRT and MRT. And being that the Beep Card offers an integrated payment system that makes the daily commute faster, it most definitely becomes an important necessity for anyone. Oh, and did you know that you can load your Beep Card up to Php 10,000.00? Cool, huh!

And as much as all these conveniences are now possible because of the Beep Card, there’s much more to smile about because it actually gets better!

The Beep Card is your new best friend at Family Mart

Last December 7, 2016, Beep Card holders can already RELOAD and PAY for purchases at 80 Family Mart branches! That’s pretty awesome if you ask me.

Just imagine… no more waiting in long queues at train stations just to load your card. Plus, no more scouring inside your bag for loose change whenever you want to buy something at Family Mart. Cashless transactions means less money in your pocket… and less money in your pocket means a little bit more peace of mind.

And you’re gonna want to have your Beep Card handy because Family Mart has tons of deliciously new offerings such as their Rice-in-a-box featuring everyone’s favorite — Yang Chow Fried Rice; Fresh Fried Lumpiang Shanghai; Solo Pizzas; and their Donburi range featuring Beef Caldereta, Pork Binagoongan, Chicken Galantina and so much more. For those dealing with a sweet tooth, you can try out their new dessert cups like the Mango Graham and Banoffee variants.

I, myself, regularly do stops at Family Mart, especially during late nights and the wee hours of the morning to grab a quick bite or find something to drink. And since it’s generally unwise to pull out one’s wallet, especially late in the evening, exposing whatever amount of cash is inside, a Beep Card totally appeals to me. Not only because it’s convenient, but also because it’s safer.

So, sure enough… because of this amazing news, I decided to head over to the nearest Family Mart branch to try purchasing a couple of stuff using my very own Beep Card.

I didn’t even have to ask the person manning the cashier if they honored the Beep Card because there’s actually a sign on their door which says, “Load and Pay with Beep”.

I went around the store looking for my usual snacks and drinks and made my way to the cashier to make my payment.

As soon as the cashier punched in the items in my basket, all I needed to say was that I was planning on paying using my Beep Card. He quickly called my attention to the Beep terminal right in front of me where I was supposed to tap my card.

It’s impossible to miss the Beep Card terminal since it’s situated front and center the moment you approach the Family Mart counter to pay. And so, with a quick tap of my card which took no more than 10 seconds, my items were paid! No change. No fuss.

It’s actually pretty awesome especially the very first time you use it. And paying using the Beep Card is the kind of thing that you could really get used to doing right away.
