One of the most important things to plot out when making a trip locally or abroad is finding a good place to lay your head at the end of a tiring day. Whether it be business or pleasure, one always looks forward to a good night’s rest in order to recharge and relax.
If you happen to be visiting Hong Kong and are staying at the southern district of this bustling city, might I suggest that you include L’Hotel Island South on your shortlist when deciding which establishment to stay in.
A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I, together with some good friends in AirAsia Philippines, visited beautiful Hong Kong. Yes! AirAsia now flies to Hong Kong! (More on that below)
Since part of our itinerary during our brief stay was to visit Ocean Park which is located on the south side of Hong Kong, we naturally had to stay around the same area. So, L’Hotel Island South, it was.
L’hotel Island South is strategically located 10 minutes away from Ocean Park by car, and a mere 15 minutes by foot.
L’Hotel Island South – A delightful experience
After a 45-minute drive from HKIA, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the hotel. Unlike other establishments that are usually stuffy and not too welcoming, L’Hotel Island South is exactly the opposite.
With a very spacious lobby that leans towards a more modern minimalist setting, guests immediately feel at home… it also helps that their entire staff is very accommodating and readily available to tend to your needs.
You probably know (if you’ve been a regular reader of my blog) that my biggest thrill whenever we stay at a new hotel is seeing our hotel room for the first time. That’s just the way I am, I guess. But being that this is the case for me, I can happily say that the “City View Room” assigned to us at L’Hotel Island South did not disappoint at all.
The room is absolutely spacious and a joy to stay in. Also, you’ll be glad to know that the rooms at L’Hotel Island South have all the necessary amenities one would need for a comfortable stay.
Oh, it is important to note, though, that there are no electrical outlets available on both sides of the bed. All of the electrical outlets are situated near the console table by the television. So if you’re carrying a good number of gadgets and devices, I suggest that you bring along something like the Jelly Charging Station to prevent shortage of outlets.
For those who are quite particular, I am happy to report that L’Hotel Island South has great bathrooms. It’s got modern fixtures and an illuminated mirror which my wife absolutely loved.
Amusingly, ours had a see-through bathroom which, I am assuming, would be great for couples (*wink-wink*).
Drop-down venetian blinds are installed on the see-through window of the bathroom which you can use in case privacy is needed (unless being watched while taking a crap is your kind of thing… LOL!).
Dining at LIS Cafe
I have to say… LIS Cafe, located at Podium Level 3 of L’Hotel Island South, provides a spectacular dining experience whether you’re there for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
LIS Cafe has a wide selection of Asian and international dishes.
Enjoy the freshest catch of the day or indulge in delicious steak and flavorful noodles. There is just so much food to choose from so make sure to scour the buffet spread first so as not to overlook some of LIS Cafe’s amazing offerings.
One of LIS Cafe’s incredible specialties, which I highly recommend, is their spectacular Suckling Pig. Words fail to describe just how deliciously delectable this dish is.
Just imagine… tender meat that absolutely melts in your mouth combined with skin that is so flavorful and crunchy, it practically breaks like glass. OMG. This alone is already worth your visit.
Location: Podium Level 6
Operational hours: 6:30AM -10:00PM daily

Note that at L’Hotel Island South, check-in time is at 2:00PM and check-out is at 12:00NN. Cancellation and pre-payment policies vary according to room type. The hotel accepts Visa, Euro/Mastercard, Diners Club and JCB. L’Hotel Island South reserves the right to pre-authorize credit cards prior to arrival. By the way… pets aren’t allowed in the hotel.
At L’hotel Island South, getting to Hong Kong’s signature points of interest is made easy with the hotel’s complimentary shuttle bus service. The shuttle bus service connects you to Ocean Park Hong Kong, Cyberport, the Airport Express Terminal at ifc and Aberdeen as early as 7:00am until 11:50pm.
Keep in mind that drivers of the bus are very prompt and that their shuttle service schedule is strictly followed. Arrive a tad late and you’ll most likely miss your ride.
I’d like to thank the wonderful people of L’Hotel Island South for the warm welcome and hospitality. I have nothing but kind words for all of you.
Staying at L’Hotel Island South has made our Hong Kong trip an enjoyable one.. and I’m quite confident that you won’t go wrong should you choose to book your stay here as well.
