WD My Cloud – Personal and Powerful

If there’s one thing we gadget users need an abundance of apart from an unending supply of battery power, it is perhaps storage space. Wouldn’t you agree?

What good is a device like a tablet or a laptop (or even a smartphone for that matter) if you do not have enough storage to save all your valuable files.

Apart from space, one would seriously need the convenience to move data from one place to another.

People have been eating up cloud services like crazy for quite sometime now because of how easy it is to access files remotely as well as to free up physical storage space. But those who use cloud services such as Dropbox, Box and iCloud know all too well that the free space they offer is barely enough. Additional storage space is almost always given at a premium and on a subscription basis. Ouch!

Thankfully, there is now a way to have your own personal cloud service without the need for expensive monthly/yearly recurring payments.

WD My Cloud Box

I recently installed my very own cloud storage device at home. It’s aptly called the WD My Cloud. It is a 3-Terrabyte external hard drive that easily connects to my wireless router via a LAN cable.

Since then, I’ve never looked back.

WD My Cloud

I was able to get my personal cloud up and running in minutes with WD’s rich web-based user interface for seamless web-guided setup. It’s equally impressive that WD’s software auto-detects the drive to make setup simple for novice users.

Access to my files when I am on my local (home) network is blazingly fast. Uploads and downloads of files happen in the blink of an eye. Accessing and storing files when I’m away from home is just as easy as using any paid cloud service out there.

Another wonderful feature of the WD My Cloud is the ability to back up computers and digital files. For PC users, WD SmartWare Pro software offers options for how, when and where to back up files. Mac users, on the other hand, can utilize all the features of Apple Time Machine backup software to protect their data. Sweet!

WD My Cloud BackMy wife and I are usually out doing events on food and travel. These kinds of activities usually entail a ton of picture taking. We normally share photos and collaborate on a good number of them. Storage sapce on online cloud services are easily consumed and is quite a headache to sort out and free up. It’s amazing how we can now store our raw images on the WD My Cloud and grab them on-demand.

Once files are uploaded to the WD My Cloud, any of our devices can access them with no problems whatsoever. It’s a joy to use and a lifesaver most of the time.

Storage isn’t even a problem since 3TBs is more than enough for our needs.

You can also attach a compatible USB 3.0 hard drive directly to the USB expansion port on the WD My Cloud drive and instantly expand their storage capacity.

The WD My Cloud works seamlessly with my WDTV Live as well.

Accessing our local cloud device, we can now watch movies, listen to music, and view photos on our TV.

I love how I can specify which folders are publicly accessible and which ones are only for authorized users.

WD My Cloud AppSystem and storage modifications can be done effortlessly through WD’s My Cloud app (desktop and mobile) or simply through a browser.

The mobile app also makes file sharing and collaborating simple and secure, allowing customers to easily email files, share files as a link, and print and open files with third party apps.

If you still wish to use other cloud services, it ain’t a problem either. The WD My Cloud app integrates flawlessly with these services as well. So, transferring files from one cloud service to another is awesomely quick and easy.

The WD My Cloud is for everyone

Here’s the bottomline… If storage and seamless syncing of data is of utmost importance to you just as it is for me, the WD My Cloud is one device you shouldn’t do without. That’s why I have it now at home. What’s more, it doesn’t matter if you’re a techie or a novice because setting up and operation is a breeze.

WD My Cloud

Think of the WD My Cloud as more of an investment instead of a luxury item. Of course it does cost a little bit of money… but the returns and benefits are enormous. Besides, imagine the savings you get by using your own personal cloud instead of continuously paying for added storage space on cloud services.

Based on firsthand experience, I strongly recommend the WD My Cloud. It’s ease of use, tremendous space and speedy access is just pure pleasure to a storage space freak like me!
