Globe Telecom said Friday that super typhoon Yolanda caused minimal disruption on the telecommunication provider’s operations in central and southern part of the country despite strong winds and heavy rains brought by the weather disturbance.
As of 12 noon Friday, about 20% of the Globe Telecom’s network in the Visayas region has been adversely affected by the super typhoon. The typhoon also caused disruption in about 6% of its network in the Mindanao area, said Robert Tan, Globe Chief Technical Adviser.
The adverse impact on sites in the Visayas region was due mostly to commercial power interruption following strong winds brought by typhoon Yolanda. Some cell sites were also affected by misalignment of antennas due to gusty winds brought by the weather anomaly, Tan said.
“Rest assured that our technical team is available to address network issues as soon as it is safe for us to do so. We have mobilized our technical personnel to work 24/7 to restore text, call and data services as soon as possible,” Tan said.
Service areas affected by typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas region include Biliran, Cebu, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Southern Leyte, Western Samar and Iloilo while areas affected in Mindanao are the provinces of Camiguin, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.
Tan added that the company’s resiliency and redundancy measures have worked to minimize network disruption caused by the super typhoon.
