Sleeplessness or lack of sleep. Whichever of these two keeps you company at night, the negative effects to one’s body are the same such as advanced ageing and a weak immune system.
In my line of work, whether blogging until the wee hours of the morning, staying up from morning till next morning for a taping of a TV series episode, or traveling locally or out of the country with a tight itinerary, lack of sleep is a common (and very frequent) thing.
And as much as regular exercise and having an active lifestyle is important, it is critical to have enough sleep as well.
As much as I’d like to get ample rest in order to recover from a stressful and hectic day, sometimes that just isn’t possible. I’m sure a lot of you can relate – especially those who work late nights employed at call centers or BPOs. Some of you have probably even resorted to snacking on junk food and coffee, or worse, smoking, during the very late hours just to stay awake and alert.
Here’s the thing… I found out that the body’s immune system undergoes a natural cycle of rest and repair from 10pm-3am. This corresponds to the natural sleeping hours of the day. However, the nature of my work and probably yours, too, does not allow for much rest during these hours.
It doesn’t take a genius to know that a weak immune system easily leads to sickness.
Who says that escaping the hustle and bustle of daily life should always include an out of town getaway? There are so many options and ways to relax and destress even without leaving the metro.
One great place to spend that much needed escape is at the brand spankin’ new Golden Phoenix Hotel Manila.
Although Golden Phoenix Hotel Manila is a new establishment located just a stone’s throw away from the SM Mall of Asia, they aren’t really new players in the hospitality business. Their very own Boracay branch has been in business for a good while now.
Recently, I visited a fairly well known restaurant located right smack in the heart of Rockwell, Makati, known for its delicious and impressive Negrense cuisine – “Kafe Batwan”.
This cool and very homey establishment is owned by celebrity chef and fellow kababayan JP Anglo.
The reason for visiting wasn’t mainly because I wanted to try out Chef JP Anglo’s dishes (although I did get to sample a good number of ‘em during that day). I was there to witness Chef JP being launched as the newest Globe Platinum ambassador.
Never underestimate the importance of good eyesight. That’s probably one thing I’ve learned as I grew up. Back in the day when I was decades younger, taking care of my eyesight was something I always took for granted. I’d read books and comics for hours on end even with little to no light at all. When my eyes would itch, I’d rub them so hard not thinking of the harm I was actually doing.
I guess, over time… these things, not to mention age, has inevitably led to the eventual degradation of my vision. And as cliche as it may sound, nothing could be truer than the saying that, “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.”
But just because my eyesight isn’t 20/20 anymore doesn’t mean I shouldn’t care for them any less. On the contrary, all the more should one be more careful and cautious of how their eyes are cared for and maintained. That’s the very reason why choosing the right kind of eyeglasses is critical and should not be taken lightly.
When the opportunity came to try out Transitions XTRActive Adaptive Lenses and break them in in beautiful Batanes via SkyJet Airlines, I didn’t think twice. I knew right away that these were the perfect pair of glasses for me.

I love Thai food. It’s like a festival of amazing flavors playing inside your mouth. You get dishes that are sour and spicy or sweet and tangy all at the same time. Thai food also looks just as good as it tastes, making it incredibly hard to ignore (or turn down). Unfortunately, really good Thai […]
I love eating spicy food and curry is no exception. Every now and then, I’d ask my wife to whip something up in the kitchen that has a touch of curry in it like Chicken or Beef Curry, perhaps. But apart from having them at home or heading over to the nearest Indian restaurant (which […]

Some people think that having a trainer in the gym to look after you and encourage you is a waste of time (and money)… It depends actually. Find a trainer that really cares about your progress – not just about fattening his own wallet. That way, you know you’re getting your money’s worth. It pays […]

It’s hard to explain how one can play with a toy and be scared of it at the same time. Ngayon lang ako nakakita ng taong kinikilabutan sa sariling laruan. Panoorin niyo maglaro ng puppet si Marie Aileen Regina Dreyfus habang sabay na kinikilabutan siya. Hahaha! Ang labo! LOL! :)) Enjoy the short video below…
PREVIOUS PARTS: Day 1 (Part 1 of 3), Day 1 (Part 2 of 3) Our next destination… the busy, crowded, festive and restaurant-riddled street of Jalan Alor. This is one long strip of road that seems to never sleep at night. The entire stretch of Jalan Alor is lined with all sorts of food stalls, with […]
PREVIOUS PART: Day 1 (Part 1 of 3) Our first stop along the way was the new National Palace of Malaysia called, Istana Negara. To say that Istana Negara is BIG is an understatement. Huge does not even come close to describing the place. Istana Negara is absofrickinlutely massive! You’ve got to be there to actually realize how […]
St. Augustine once said, “the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page”. As a person who has gone to quite a number of places around and beyond our country, this particular saying breathes deeper meaning to me all the more. Truly, one must not be easily satisfied with merely […]
