Many of us love coffee but not all of us know about the intricacies of making a cup of joe — especially the kind that requires more than just hot water in a cup and a 3-in-1 sachet on the side.
I enjoy coffee a whole lot. I actually incorporate coffee into my fitness regimen since caffeine plays an important role in boosting one’s metabolism which is vital in any weight loss/maintenance program.
My go-to drink? Espresso. It’s quick. It’s strong. And, boy, does it really kick things into high gear.
Developing a love for this drink — and inevitably having a love affair with it — means wanting to also know how great coffee is made.
My incredibly fun “barista for a day” experience with De’Longhi and San Remo
Fortunately, just a couple of days ago, I had the wonderful opportunity of becoming sort of a barista for a day together with other friends and acquaintances in the online industry by being part of a coffee-making workshop courtesy of our awesome friends at De’Longhi Philippines.During this workshop, I had the pleasure of learning from well-known food and beverage specialist, Mike Canlas (don’t let the mohawk distract you… he knows his business very well).
This coffee workshop was held at the Concept Specialist, Inc. Showroom along Scout Dr. Lazcano Strteet in Quezon City. The place showcased a variety of incredible products not only by De’Longhi, but also other amazing coffee machines from powerhouse brand, San Remo.
Mike Canlas first talked about wonderful varieties of coffee and the many different ways this amazing beverage is prepared all over the world. This was a great way of getting all of us more interested and raring to go at it.
Our coffee workshop this afternoon allowed us to use four awesome coffee making machines ranging from the powerful and sleek-looking San Remo Opera and San Remo Verona RS, to the dependable and very versatile De’Longhi Dedica and impressive De’Longhi Eletta Cappuccino machine.
San Remo OperaI was drawn to the sleek and elegant design of the San Remo Opera the moment I first saw it. I could liken it to a beautiful classic muscle car that not only outperforms the competition but also makes heads turn without even trying.
What makes the San Remo Opera standout? Well, from what I’ve learned, this particular machine was created by the best in the coffee world, champions and experts together: the Opera Team. It has the exclusive CDS system (Control Delivery System) that allows a full control on the three extraction phases. It obviously has great ergonomics, amazing details and innovative materials. But apart from that, the San Remo Opera also has independent temperature regulation for groups and boilers, Specific Pressure Drive mechanic pump for every group, fitted with Competition Filters… and is (get this!) equipped with an ASUS tablet for bluetooth configuration. Incredible!
And, though, I don’t see myself having one of these at home due to overkill (but, hey… you’ll never know!), in my opinion, the San Remo Opera is a must-have for any establishment who is truly serious about great coffee. Know more about the San Remo Opera by checking out the video below.
After a quick coffee demonstration by Mike Canlas on the San Remo Opera (not to mention the importance of proper procedure, attention to detail, grind quality and utmost cleanliness), it was finally our turn to take on these coffee-making beauties and take a crack at making our own caffeine creations.
And since, according to Mike, espresso is at the heart of every good coffee concoction, we took turns trying to make the perfect espresso.
San Remo Verona RSI had the pleasure of operating the incredibly gorgeous San Remo Verona RS with Mike Canlas keeping a watchful eye on me, making sure I don’t mess up. LOL!
I tried my best to follow everything Mike taught us.
Tada! My first espresso! And hey… according to Mike, I did a good job at it. I hope he wasn’t just being nice. Hahaha!
I had a sweet time using the San Remo Verona RS. Apart from looking just as beautiful as the Opera, it is equally a powerhouse and a beautiful machine that deserves a spot at any coffee shop that aims to deliver only the best drinks.
Interested to know more about the San Remo Verona RS? I’ve got you covered. This handsome machine has a renewed, upgraded design and a WCE (“World Coffee Events”) certification. It boasts of 30% less energy consumption with the Energy Saving System. Apart from that, the RS System allows maximum heat stability (+-0,2°C). The San Remo Verona RS has a Flowactive system (controlled pre-infusion) to modernise and improve the glorious tradition that involved the dispensing of the unit with a lever. The machine also showcases a SMARTouch multifunctional display, plus Cold Touch steam taps.
After taking on the San Remo Verona RS and the San Remo Opera, it was time to make delicious coffee using the De’Longhi Dedica pump espresso machine. This beauty offers a traditional espresso and cappuccino experience in a sleek ultra compact design. The Dedica, though smaller than the other machines we had the pleasure of using earlier, is no less handsome.
Now, THIS is something I would definitely want to have at home. Apart from its good looks, The De’Longhi Dedica’s slim 6″ design saves on precious counter space without compromising on its performance of creating awesome espressos and cappuccinos.
The De’Longhi Dedica features a patented manual cappuccino system which allows anyone to achieve the richest, thickest, longest lasting foam for a superior beverage to be shared with friends and family or cherished alone.
I love how I can customize my perfect beverage with the unique flow stop feature, choosing between 1 or 2 shots of espresso.
While using the De’Longhi Dedica pump espresso machine, I experienced how this baby delivers the ultimate in performance. It features an easy to use control panel with illuminated buttons and includes a 3-in-1 filter holder to accommodate single shots, double shots and easy serving espresso pods. It boasts of thermoblock technology, which heats up to the ideal brewing temperature in only 40 seconds. You know what that means? Of course! It means you are never far from an authentic Italian espresso!
I also had the pleasure of trying out the De’Longhi Eletta Cappuccino machine.
This amazing machine made me feel like an expert in no time. With it, I could whip up exceptional espressos, bold cappuccinos, creamy lattes and rich macchiatos.
All it takes is just a touch of a button.
The De’Longhi Eletta Cappuccino Machine is compact and elegantly designed with all the features of a full sized super automatic espresso machine.
I happily and effortlessly created my own concoctions with the help of the Eletta’s patented Latte Crema System which helps me create perfectly layered espresso beverages, with dense, rich, long-lasting foam in every cup from start to finish. It even has a unique Milk Menu function which automatically prepares Café Latte, Macchiato, Flat White and Steamed Hot Milk easily!
It even has an integrated burr grinder with adjustable settings that grinds fresh beans every time to ensure maximum freshness. You can also use pre-ground in the second chamber for regular, specialty or decaf. I love it!
De’Longhi and San Remo – Incredible coffee every single time.
After taking on the San Remo Opera, San Remo Verona RS, De’Longhi Dedica and the De’Longhi Eletta, I already feel like a professional barista — if only for a day! I absolutely loved my experience whipping up coffee creations which I hope met the expectations of Mike Canlas and my friends at Concept Specialist, Inc.
I also gained a new-found respect for baristas considering how much detail and work goes into every cup of coffee they serve.
I’d like to thank Concept Specialist, Inc. and Mike Canlas for the amazing coffee workshop and barista-for-a-day experience. I truly had the time of my life. Besides, you don’t get to play with these awesome coffee-making machines everyday, right?
