Tagaytay is one place I never grow tired of visiting. It’s one of the best escape destinations that isn’t too far from Manila, making it easily accessible and convenient to travel to.

Apart from its pleasant climate, scenic Taal Lake and Volcano, and mouthwatering bulalo, I recently discovered a new restaurant that has given me more reason to keep on returning to Tagaytay — Amacena at One Tagaytay Place Hotel.

Amacena is an incredibly cozy and easygoing restaurant that boasts of a great selection of dishes carefully concocted and prepared by Executive Chef Luigi Muhlach. If his name sounds familiar, then you’re probably an ‘80s kid. Luigi Muhlach used to go by his childhood name — Igi Boy — a household name back in the day when his showbiz parents (and good friends of mine), Aga Muhlach and Janice de Belen, used to mention his name regularly on television.

Today, Luigi Muhlach, has escaped the shadows of his popular parents and is now a well-respected chef, consistently coming up with a variety of gastronomical masterpieces which leave guests of Amacena in awe and delight.

I recently visited Amacena at One Tagaytay Place Hotel to try out some of Chef Luigi’s delicious creations and I just have to say that every single one of his dishes blew me away. There was not a single dish that I didn’t love… and I can’t wait to share them all with you.

Tuna Kilawin sa Gata with Chicken Skin — Not your typical Tuna Kilawin. This one is served in a coconut shell and served with lots of gloriously crispy chicken skin.

Amacena Paella — Aligue, saffron, Vigan longganisa, chicken inasal, calamansi aioli and tiger prawns. Win!

Of course, a meal ain’t complete without dessert. And boy did I enjoy the sweet treat that Amacena brought out…

Leche Flan Turon (Php 120.00) — Crispy lumpia wrapper with creamy leche flan inside and served with a scoop of ice cream and drizzled with chocolate syrup. Yum!

Truly, Amacena by Chef Luigi Muhlach at One Tagaytay Place Hotel is fast becoming a destination for visitors who want to enjoy specialties that are comfortingly familiar yet pleasantly different at the same time. You’ll probably find yourself craving and coming back for more — and with good reason.
