Planning a trip up north? There are a ton of places to choose from. Common destinations that immediately come to mind are locations such as Baguio for the cool climate, and La Union for the wonderful beaches and awesome waves that attract the festive surfing crowd.
But, if you want a trip like no other, hit the road and head on over to beautiful Vigan City. Vigan is one of the few remaining Hispanic towns in the Philippines. The old structures of this breathtaking city remain intact and is well-known for its cobblestone streets and distinct meld of oriental and colonial European architecture.
And because exploring this incredible city (which has also been named a UNESCO Heritage Site and recently included as one of the New7Wonders cities) can get you delightfully tired at the end of a hectic day, it is equally important to look for a place to stay where you can relax and recharge during your visit.
During my recent Vigan escapade with friends and family, we were able to experience a truly wonderful stay at Hotel Luna.
Named after Juan Luna, the great Filipino painter, Hotel Luna is strategically located just beside Calle Crisologo – a popular tourist destination that locals and foreigners frequent and is perhaps the most popular spot in all of Vigan City.
Apart from being the first and only museum hotel in the Philippines, Hotel Luna, in my opinion, is hands down the best place to stay in when you travel to this beautiful city.
Hotel Luna boasts of all the comforts of a modern hotel with the incredible convenience of being close to other sought after places within Vigan.
And though I’m not one to get too technical or detailed when it comes to amenities and attractions, allow me to tell you about some of the things and offerings that have truly impressed me during our memorable stay at Hotel Luna.
Exploring Hotel Luna
First and foremost, Hotel Luna has a very friendly staff. You’ll immediately notice how each personnel is willing to go the extra mile to make your stay a more pleasant one.
All 54 rooms and suites of Hotel Luna are beautifully decorated and impressively spacious. You’d be happily surprised to know that their rooms are well-airconditioned with clean comfortable beds. Each room combines classic details and modern amenities that will definitely catch your eye.
I especially love how the bathrooms of Hotel Luna have an amusing mix of rustic and modern fixtures.
I couldn’t stop tinkering with the electronic toilet that boasts of features such as automatic flush, toilet seat temperature regulator (because no one wants to sit on a chilly toilet seat, right?), automated posterior wash, feminine wash, enema and dryer.
It’s really something, I tell ya!
By the way, every room in Hotel Luna is equipped with Orthopedic Beds, IR Electronic Lockset System, Flat Screen LED TV, Cable TV, NDD/IDD Telephone Units, Safety Deposit Box, and a Mini Ref. Pretty much everything you might need during your enjoyable stay.
From what I’ve learned, Hotel Luna was built on the Dona Carmen Florentino House which is a two-storey structure built in 1882 by Don Jose Florentino as a wedding gift to her daughter Dona Carmen Florentino.
Hotel Luna even has a really beautiful Executive Suite which is located just beside the museum (imagine that!) which makes your stay extra classy! Sweet!
And the bathroom of Hotel Luna’s Executive Suite is just as amazing as the room itself. You can practically live inside it.
Hotel Luna Museum
I was especially excited to explore Hotel Luna’s incredible museum which I heard was home to some really spectacular and priceless works of art.
True enough, I was blown away by all the paintings and stunning works of art housed inside the hotel’s very own private museum such as creations by Master and National Artists like Fernando Amorsolo, Napoleon Abueva, Vicente Manansala, Benedicto Cabrera, and of course, Juan Luna.
The Comedor Restaurant features gleaming original brick walls from the 1800 and offers specialized Paellas which is actually the first of its kind in Vigan.
Next to the Comedor is the swimming pool where you can cool down and have fun outdoors with a calming sound of waterfalls.
Chula Saloon Bar
This cozy little area was named after the Chula painting series of Juan Luna. Here you can unwind, enjoy lounge music, nibble on some yummy bar chow, down a couple of craft beers, single malt whiskeys, cocktail and exquisite wine selection. Perfect after a long day of exploring the breathtaking city.
I had a wonderful time hanging with my wife and good friends at Hotel Luna’s roofdeck which showcases the beauty of Vigan’s amazing skyline.
Enjoy a couple of drinks while taking in the cool breeze and the wonderful view.
If the beauty, comfort and hospitality of Hotel Luna isn’t enough of a draw (which I sincerely doubt), the food alone that they serve from breakfast to dinner is absolutely worth your visit.
They have amazing dishes that will keep you coming back for seconds.
Oh… and make sure to try their insanely delicious tapa!!! I’m not kidding. At all! So make sure to leave your diet at the door when you drop by. Hahaha!
Hotel Luna also offers a Meeting and Event Space (2,200 square feet) that is ideal for groups looking for a more exclusive venue.

Hotel Luna is distinctly unique in terms of ambiance and presentation, giving this establishment its own amazing individuality. It stands out among the usual crop of avaliable accommodations in and around the city.
Apart from that, if you happen to have kids along during your trip, Hotel Luna’s priceless collection of sculptures and paintings make for an awesome opportunity to introduce children to art and help them gain a deep appreciation for it.
In my own opinion, Hotel Luna is not only a place where you can kick back, relax and have a jolly good time, but most definitely also a destination in itself.
I’d like to thank the wonderful people of Hotel Luna for making my family’s stay a truly memorable one. I fell in love with Vigan all the more because of it.
