I absolutely enjoy online shopping. In fact, I personally believe that this experience has never been as enjoyable and as convenient as it is today.
International brands and hard-to-find items which long ago seemed impossible to obtain are now just a few mouse clicks away. In fact, there are a good number of products that even come out cheaper when purchased on the internet as opposed to buying them locally. It even gives you the opportunity to have have the latest items faster than most people. Some even offer free delivery right to your doorstep. Awesome!
And because of how easy it is for Filipinos to now access the “world wide web” (does anyone still use this term?) through smartphones and unlimited surfing packages, our online shopping appetite has further been stimulated.
Based on studies, topping the list categories that attracts the interest of the Filipino online shopper is music downloads at 41.4% and apps downloads at 37%. This is followed by personal, educational and professional development websites at 27.6% and computer software at 26.8% and home appliance and electronic products at 25.6%. Travel is also on top of the list at 27.2% and airlines at 26.4%. Fashion and beauty are also high on the list with retailers for clothing and accessories at 24.2% and personal care and beauty care brands at 21.6%. Entertainment is also popular with cinema and movie theaters and restaurants and food delivery service both at 22.6%.
I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t love the thought of online shopping.
I do know for a fact, though, that a good number of people whom I know would love to go online shopping but are apprehensive to do so for fear of compromising their cards by way of fraud or going over their limit because of lack of discipline.
Give these people a means to enjoy the advantages of online shopping without the risks involved and I am confident they will jump at the opportunity immediately.
Thankfully, there is a way. If you consider yourself to be part of this particular demographic, read on. You’ll be glad you did.
What exactly is a MasterCard Virtual Card and what can it do?
A MasterCard Virtual Card is basically a MasterCard account number. It is issued to a MasterCard credit, debit or prepaid cardholder for use exclusively on the internet. With it, you can manage a separate card account number for online transactions only.
Why would you want something like this, you ask? Well, with the MasterCard Virtual Card, it gives you the opportunity to limit credit line. It also provides family members with unique accounts for online shopping as well as tracking online from retail purchases separately.
The MasterCard Virtual Card comes in two forms: A regular card plastic for those who want something tangible… or as a virtual card which provides a card number and card verification code for purchases solely done online.
The only difference between the MasterCard Virtual Card and your typical credit, debit or prepaid card is that the MasterCard Virtual Card will not be accepted for face-to-face transactions or at in-store payment terminals. It is designed to protect your primary card and bank account details from the very threats that have made some of you apprehensive of this mode of shopping – identity thieves. The MasterCard Virtual Card prevents the risk of exposing your primary account while making payments online. Cool, right?!
Afraid of “maxing out” your credit limit? Don’t worry… the MasterCard Virtual Card allows you to carry out online transactions with peace of mind, too.
The way I see it, having a MasterCard Virtual Card offers tons of benefits and none of the risk. In fact, even applying for one is really easy and can also be done online.
Simply visit the official website of your existing MasterCard-issuing bank and complete the application form online.
It’s high time you get in on the action and experience the joys of online shopping if you haven’t yet. You’ll be quite surprised to discover just how wonderful it can be while saving more of your hard-earned money at the same time.
