Still thinking of where to take your special someone this Valentine’s Day? Here’s a great recommendation! Why not Dine Under The Stars at The Terrace of Maxims Hotel in Resorts World Manila. It’s exactly what my wife and I did just a couple of nights ago.
Though we had this particular dinner a couple of days before Valentine’s, it was a great way to kick off the season of love, given the ambiance, preparation and, yes, even the kind of dishes prepared for the evening.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Bohol once again courtesy of my wonderful Philippines AirAsia family.
I’ve said it time and again… Bohol is like a second home to me. I’ve been to Bohol around over 6 times in 2016 alone — and I never grow tired of it. Bohol is just one of those amazing places that boasts of great tourist spots, wonderful food, exciting festivities and some of the warmest and most hospitable people around.
Our itinerary for this particular Bohol trip was the Ubi Festival 2017 which is celebrated annually, and a fun Visita Iglesia in January. I was actually also able to attend the Ubi Festival 2016 last year which was so much fun. Now, just to get the confusion out of the way… Boholanos spell Ube (Purple Yam) as “Ubi”. They also happen to be the largest growers of this root crop anywhere in the world, hence the festival in this province that was named after it.
The Visita Iglesia is also something that I’ve been eagerly anticipating on doing. Of course, Visita Iglesia season happens during Holy Week which falls between March and April every year, but it was great that we were given the opportunity to do it during our recent visit. Bohol has some of the most amazing and majestic churches in the country and has been a great destination for tourists and the faithful alike. Sadly, most of the churches in Bohol have been devastated or badly damaged due to the terrible earthquake back in 2013. During my frequent trips to the province last year, the local government together with their people, have been hard at work restoring and reconstructing these churches. This visit gave me an opportunity to see how their efforts are progressing.
Join me as we go on a Visita Iglesia as well as join the Ubi Festival 2017 through this photoblog. I also made a quick video of this trip which I embedded below as well. Let’s go! :)
Technology is a great thing. Among other benefits, it makes our work much more efficient, it allows us to do things more conveniently, and it gives people access to information faster and easier than ever before.
But, at what cost?
You see, technology is a double edged sword. As we maximize and enjoy its seemingly limitless potential, we must also be cautious not to be burdened or hurt by it.
We constantly praise humanity’s advances in technology, not to mention the power of the internet, recognizing that because of it, the world has never been smaller and more connected.
While that may be the truth, many of us fail to realize that the very same technology that practically surrounds us everywhere we go, has also made us slaves of it. The very thing that has given us the power to be connected has, ironically, also been the very reason why human beings have slowly grown apart. People have become frighteningly addicted and dependent on technology that we have sadly become imprisoned by our devices and forgotten the importance of personal ties and truly “being” with someone and sharing meaningful moments with them.
It’s such a tragedy to see families living under the same roof and yet never really “being together”.
More great news from the World’s Best Low Cost Carrier.
AirAsia today announced it will recommence flights from Clark International Airport in Pampanga with three flights weekly to Kalibo (Boracay) effective March 27, 2017.
Philippines AirAsia CEO Captain Dexter Comendador said, “AirAsia has constantly dedicated itself to make air travel more affordable, convenient, and accessible to all and we are reaffirming this commitment with our newest Clark-Kalibo route. We are thrilled to provide the much needed connectivity at affordable fares for travellers from Central and Northern Luzon.”
America, here we come!
AirAsia X has received clearance from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) to fly to the US.
This is BIG news because the airline is the first Asian low-cost carrier to secure approval to operate scheduled passenger flights to the US. And the much celebrated approval allows AirAsia’s long-haul, low-cost sister airline to operate services to any destination within the US.
AirAsia X is currently considering flights to several US states including Hawaii as part of its route expansion plans.
Every now and then I’d like to surprise myself by using a variety of smartphones which I consider to be standouts in the market. It’s a great way to gauge the development of technology and the beauty of competition. One particular standout that I have recently started playing with up until now and couldn’t get […]
Storage, storage, storage. It’s one thing that we gadget geeks can never get enough of. Well, that and battery power of course. Here’s the thing folks… as our devices get better and better and as the cameras of our smartphones are constantly upgraded with better sensors and higher megapixel capabilities, the file sizes of our […]

Genetic testing as a means to have the edge in the fight against cancer has always been very expensive. But not anymore with the help of Asia Genomics.
Choosing the right brand of contact lens is just as important as using them. That’s why when we had to get one for our daughter, we only trusted Air Optix.
Destressing normally needs a good amount of distraction to take your mind away from the usual concerns of everyday life. Now, how one destresses really varies from person to person. My usual and preferred way of relaxation is hitting the gym to lift a few weights and do a couple of laps on the treadmill […]
Looking to impress your date this Valentine’s? Whether you’ve got plans or not, you’re gonna want to Dine Under the Stars at The Terrace of Maxims Hotel.
When my wife and I go out to enjoy each other’s company over good food, it doesn’t necessarily mean finding a restaurant where we could both have a significantly heavy meal. Sometimes, finding the right spot with the right ambiance and a couple of snacks is enough. That’s why when we visited Marco Polo Ortigas […]
A celebration of American optimism through a wonderful selection of Beringer wines was held at the M Cafe in Makati to the delight of sommeliers and guests.
Feed your inner geek by checking out the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story mural which was recently unveiled at the Sky Dome of SM North Edsa! It’s awesome!
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I couldn’t help but recall this saying as I quietly observe the latest developments on the ongoing (and never ending) telco war. As of late, I just noticed that Sun Cellular has been quite forward on its attacks against Globe Telecom. They seem to have been making not-so-subtle snipes […]
I recently had a short but very sweet staycation down south at Acacia Hotel Manila. It was my first time to experience this fairly established fixture right smack at the heart of Alabang, Muntinlupa City. And since staycations always make me feel like a kid again, this particular occasion was no different. I was just as […]
There is a reason why “Shelter” is one of the three basic (and important) human needs with “food” and “clothing” being the other two. Apart from the obvious reason of providing protection from the weather, shelter gives tangibility to a person’s notion of a home – a physical manifestation, so to speak. It is a […]
Check out my recent visit to beautiful Bohol to check out the Ubi Festival 2017 as well as to do a quick Visita Iglesia to see the province’s many churches.

News flash! Captain Dexter Comendador has officially been appointed President and CEO of Philippines AirAsia. Find out why he’s the right man for the job.
I’m a huge fan of Grab. Whether it’s GrabCar, GrabTaxi, GrabExpress, GrabBike or GrabHeli. There really is no downside to any of Grab’s services and I’m sure those who have also experienced its convenience will easily agree with me. In case you’re one of those who still take the cab more often than GrabTaxi, allow […]
